The best and most intuitive printer on the market right now is the HP D7360, hands down.

Released a couple of weeks ago, it has already made its way into the major retailers such as Best Buy, Fry's Electronics, Staples, Circuit City, etc.

This machine has a touchscreen LCD that allows you to view and edit your photos directly on your printer (without having to use a computer). There are 6 individual ink cartridges that you can purchase individually or in a pack of all 6 for $36.99. Photos are printer as fast as 12 seconds (usually around 30 seconds) and are of the highest quality. You can print photos of any size from wallets to 8.5x24 inches. It also does regular printing. This machine costs $199 at the retail price, but you can find it on sale this week at Best Buy for $179. Go check it out.

I wouldn't recommend an Epson because they are having a lawsuit filed against them because of their cartridges, and Canon's prints-per-photo are twice as much as what you would get from the HP D7360, which turns out a 24 cent per photo that looks much better than a Wal-Mart photo could ever hope to be.

Canon ip series printers give very excellent photo printouts. I own a Canon ip 4200 and its results are stunning. If you can afford the ip8500, i think you will be satisfied if you don't want to compromise quality. One downside of my printer, however, is the high cost of the individual ink tanks.

HP Photosmart with both tri-color cartridges.

#1 - the HP Premium Plus Glossy Photo paper is rated as silver halide quality. Silver halide is the kind of paper used by professional portrait studio's.

#2 HP can blend the colors on the paper by printing dots on top of dots, known as PhotoRET. Others just print lots of small dots next to each other giving the illusion of a mixed color. For instance, HP would put blue on top of red to give you a real purple, where as Canon would put blue next to red to trick your eye into seeing purple.

It's not just about the total number of dots, even though HP has just as many as the others, now days.
