hi,,, in Florence,, when you get off the train,, walk to the front of the station,,, turn right and go out that door,,, down the steps and across the street are 3 hotels,, they are all very nice and not way expensive,, they all serve breakfast,,, my suggestion ,, is to pig out at breakfast,,, light lunch and have more to spend on supper... In Florence,,,, up from the Duermo, past the cathedril about 50 yards is a very nice resturant on the right,,, try the chicken carbinarre... its wonderful........

When in Rome,, beware of the Pick Pockets and purse snatchers !!!! They are very good at their trade......

PS. you can take an early train from Rome to Florence or vice versa,,, takes about 2 hours or so... nice trip,,,,

Check out the Hard Rock Cafe in Rome also.... its nice....

Stay away from the Central Termani (train station) at night,,,,,,not a good place to hand out......

Wear comfortable shoes,,, if going to the Vatican,,,wear nice clothes,, no belly buttons,, no short skirts,,, It is a Church,,,,and they will not let you in....

Also going to the Scystine Chapel,,, go early,,, they are open only certain days, and the Lines are very long,,, it takes about 4 hours just to walk to the chapel...... and no pictures inside it either,,, they will take your camera away,,,,,,,I saw them do that,,,,

    Have fun,,, good luck

to find an accomodation I think is better to look up into websites like "www.excite.it" where are described hotels and B&B and you can see some photos.

for the meals I suggest to try pasta(not just "spaghetti"but also the kind of pasta we call "fresca",made with eggs) and to choose restaurants away from the center of the cities because they are terribly expensive :(

to move from a city to another the better would be the train but they are always late so why don't you take a bus? it takes time to arrive but in the meanwhile you can look at our wounderful countryside.

into the city the best way to move is using public transport(bus&metro)or on foot.

    ciao e buon viaggio :)

one of the things that we did for lunch was try pizza at some place different every day. plus, we were able to get it to-go which 1. cut down on the price of that meal and 2. kept us moving and seeing things. and at the time of year you are going it should be beautiful to take lunch and sit outside somewhere. remember, the patios at restaurants can be expensive to eat at since it is nice. dont forget to eat gelato, there are some wonderful places in florence.
