Probably Gallileo. He basically invented the scientific method of inquiry, giving mankind the tools we use to explore the world around us. Had no one done what Gallileo did, there would have been no industrial revolution, no modern medicine, no modern social reforms, basically none of the things that we identify as the benefits of modern life.

People of all faiths should agree that Bill Gates has had the most impact on all our lives of anyone in recent history. He gave the abilty to use computers to everyone regardless of education level, income, or social staus. Or maybe Al Gore since he claims to have invented the world wide web.

My personal pick would be Copernicus.
Though devoutly religious, he (more or less) established modern science...encouraging astronomers, scientists, and scholars to take a more skeptical attitude toward established religious dogma.
