First of all, flea soap on your dog will only kill a few fleas on him at the time of the bath; they'll just jump right back on the dog once it's dry. So try this: I've had the best and most consistent results getting rid of fleas on both dogs and cats by using Frontline Top Spot; I swear by it! I live in deep south Texas where ticks and fleas are brutal!!
Frontline Top Spot not only kills fleas on dogs & cats for a continuous three months on one dose, it also kills ticks dependably for up to 30 days on one dose, too...AND it's perfectly safe and effective to use on Puppies and kittens 5 weeks of age and older, too!
Frontline Top Spot comes in premeasured vials you just break open and apply to the back of the neck of each one of your dogs, right between their shoulder blades; on cats be sure to place it higher on the neck, just right below the base of the head so it can't lick it. That's it! It'll keep killing fleas on your pet for 3 months and ticks for 1 month.
Don't worry about treating your yard or house or carpet areas, as any new fleas that hatch out in your house or yard will instinctively jump on your pet's coat and die as soon as they bite them to feed. It's genius!! I couldn't live without the stuff! You can get it at your local vet or do what I do and call 1-800-PET-MEDS for the cheapest prices, plus they'll be delivered right to your house within the week!
Until your Frontline arrives, be sure to vacuum all carpeted areas very well and get in all the cracks and crevices around furniture and baseboards, too, as that's where fleas love to hide until you or the dog walks by for a quick meal. Be sure to cut up one or two of the dog flea collars you can get at any drug, grocery or pet store and put them into the vacuum bag or canister FIRST before you vacuum; this will help kill the fleas and stop them from climbing out of your vacuum before they die.
You can also buy some cedar shavings and place them around your house where fleas are the most prevalent, as fleas don't like the smell of cedar and tend to shy away from them. But BEWARE that your dog cannot get to the shavings as your dog might enjoy chewing on them and that would cause more harm than good if they swallow them!
Good luck to you!!

Flea soap will not keep the fleas away. He needs a topical solution like Advantage or Frontline. It is a once a month treatment that works. Over the counter meds do not allways work, usually in-effective. And can cause sudden death. Use a prescription medication from the vet ( some petstores carry it too ) Advantage or Frontline! Then treat your house at the same time...foggers, clean all bedding any clothes laying around in hot water. Do not use sprays or foggers directly on pet...this stuff is/ or can be toxic to animals. Also do you have any cats??? They will need to be treated also.
The soap and water trick only work for so long ...unless you REALLY wanna bathe your dog everyday. And if you do you may create a toxic level of the chemical in the soap after time....
and Tater Salad said it too - VACUUM and THROW OUT THE BAG!!!! then spray, then vaccuum again...

Fleas need food. If you use a spot on your pet, then the fleas will be as good as gone. I highly recommend Frontline Plus spot for dogs. My dog goes camping with me about 10-15 times a year and if I miss a spot, she almosts always comes back with fleas or ticks. If she is spotted, there is never a problem with any bugs.
Flea soap might work for a while but the fleas will use your pet again... as food. Keep your pet spotted during the non winter months and you won't have this problem again.
As for the fleas you now have, I would probably fog with a product such as Raid ® Flea Killer Plus Fogger..
and you need to know this:
"It's important to remember that no flea treatment can penetrate a flea's protective cocoon. Fleas that are in the cocoon stage during your initial treatment may have survived. Keep on the lookout for renewed flea activity in the first two weeks after initial treatment, and re-treat problem areas promptly."
The CURE is a monthly frontline spot for your dog. Getting rid of the fleas won't be too difficult if you remove the food supply... by spotting your dog once a month. Just about anything else and the fleas will keep coming back.

Call a pest control professional. The day before he arrives, vaccume your entire carpet and then take the vaccum bag and double wrap it in a plastic bag and thow it out. Then wash all clothing, blankets, throw rugs and curtains that touch the floor. Keep them out of sight until they've done the treatment. They have a carpet treatment in an aresol can that will not only kill the existing fleas but it will also stop the development of any larve that are still in the rugs. Always keep a flea collar on your dog for prevention. Good luck.

Foggers would probably be the best way. And to get what the foggers doesn't kill you can use a nightlight with one of those sticky things on it(they should sell them with the sprays). Or you can turn on a night light with a bowl of oil under it. The fleas are attracted to the light, so when they jump toward the light they get trapped in the oil. I've done this before and it actually works.

Go to your vet. They sell sprays to spray into the carpet. Fleas lay their eggs into the carpet. You need to hoover the carpet, then thoroughly spray this stuff into the carpet, and then hoover it again after 30 minutes of the spray being down. The one I would recommend is Staykil.

u have to wash everything in ur house. i've tried the foggers, but they didn't really work that well. my cats had fleas, it was awful, as i had to have an exterminator come and spray everywhere, carpet, curtains, underneath the bed and boxspring.
