"Mr Blair said it was possible to spot the families whose circumstances made it likely their children would grow up to be a "menace to society".
He said teenage mums and problem families could be forced to take help to head off difficulties. "
Doesn't he look good in his neo-fascist hat?
This is appalling.
It's time he started worrying about the menace our society poses to this planet.
I wrote this in my blog on August 12th, talking about the government's tendency to blame Joe public for our environmental ills.
"As we begin our downward spiral our governments will increasingly refuse to govern, instead blaming easily targetted parts of the populace for our woes. And when the energy crunch starts to hurt, they'll move from blame to punishment, lashing out blindly as the rug is pulled from beneath their feet.
Welcome to the new fascism. "
Seems apposite in this context too.

Tackle at 'pre-birth' or 'pre-conception'? Sounds surreally pre-emptive to me...but hey - he's on his way out, and what he's saying plays well with the usual suspects (id est; popular media), for he's not talking about the 'Thorpe-Smythes' in, say, London SW3. He wants a Marciano-type assault to make the 'Mail-ites' smile (with their blue-rinsed gratitude) at his eventual departure. We had the same throughout the sixties to the mid eighties, then, however regarding colour - different shades of politics, but same prejudices. This latest thing is all about class...will we ever learn?
1984, Lisa? More like Germany 1933!

In my opinion NO.
There used to be Family Service Units dotted around in some major cities, they were great. In the 90's The government started to pay councils less so they lost their funding and ended up shutting.
Family service units were good for all sorts of things and they were not social services which a lot of young people are scared of. They had cookery clubs for young women and the kids were looked after in the creche'. They had a room where the dad could see his kids if he and the mother had split up. The mothers chose to go to the Family Service Unit. (Chose is a very important fact, not forced.)
Threatening people never works I wish the government could work that out for themselves.
I had 2 young children on benefits when my ex hubby left they were 2 and 6. I got remarried when they were 10 and 6. My kids turned out OK. In the 90's it was in all the papers that kids from one parent families were going to turn out kids who got into drugs and crime.
Should I have had to go on one of the courses Tony Blair is thinking about. NO my kids are fine.
My 18 year old is planning on going to University, my 23 year old holds a job down and him and his partner had a baby in March.
I don't think I have done too bad to turn out 2 nice young men.

The P.M. should tackle parents guardians and those that spend most time with children the understanding of teaching discipline, attitude and respect. Trouble is who is going to teach the PM.

isn't john prescott having trouble with his son. hasn't prince william been accused of bad roudy behaviour, drink and the like. anyone in the world of politics seem to be perverts or slappers with kids who are unruly so stopping them from breeding is a very good idea

great question -
Teenagers below 16 should have their babies taken from them at birth and given to 'good' homes.
He should also tackle the phenomenem of young girls having babies to get a council house and dole
