when can I move irises and daylillies?

I expanded my garden and would like to move several hundred irises (bearded and siberian) and daylillies (about 5 different varieties) and tiger lillies.

I live in zone 5-6.

You may do this any time during the first 3 weeks of September, maybe another two weeks past that if you are really in zone 6. Make sure apply consistent water for 2 to 3 weeks after transplanting.

Day lillies are especially hardy. I transplanted day lillies this summer (zone 6) and didn't even water. Despite a dry hot summer, they all survived.

Actually now is the best time to move them, The can still adjust to the transplant and store enough for the comming spring. Use a transplat solution too that will help them establish in the new area.

i live in zone 6....except for when they are blooming i move mine as i need/want to up until late september...gotta give their roots time to establish before winter sets in

i have moved iris and daylilies during droughts and they have done just fine...just give occasional water..also this is a good time to cut the green back on iris above where each leaf seperates(fan part)

i always fertilize very lightly in the fall/winter with 10-10-10 fertilizer

fall is the best time. remember not to bury the irises too deep. you basically just need to throw them some dirt, no extra care really needed. they are pretty hardy.

when the temp falls to around 70 daytime in the fall should be about the right time

p.s. move them early in the morn or in the evening for best results

Wait till fall, like October. Trim back any green that's left and transplant.

when the day lilies have finished flowering usually in winter and the irises when they have started emerging but may not flower that year

best to move in the fall when it is cooler and the plants have died back, if your planning to wait awhile before replanting keep the rizones dry or they will rot

In Michigan, we can move them at any time. They are incredibly hardy.
