Yes. "It's Potty Time" comes in versions for boys and girls. It has a button to push that "flushes" as well. My 22 month daughter likes it a lot and likes to have it read to her when she's on the potty. Elmo has a good one too.

The book that helped me the most was Toilet Training in Less Than a Day, by Nathan H. Azrin and Richard M. Foxx, a Kangaroo Book by Pocket Books, New York. It suggests that once a child realizes that he is about to go potty, or has just completed a pee-pee, can pull his pants up or down, and can stay dry for a few hours at a time, then he is ready to learn to do the potty procedure for himself--usually at about 20 months old, more or less.

The book suggests the child should be taught first the specific skills of approaching the potty and seating himself on it, lowering and raising his pants by himself, wiping himself after pee-pees and being motivated to potty himself before "it's too late."

    Teaching aids needed are:

    1) a hollow doll that wets when given liquid from a bottle,

    2) a small potty or potty chair,

    3) at least 9 pairs of training pants--loosely fitting, so that they are very easy for a small child to raise or lower over his little bottom on his own,

    4) a variety of drinks and salty food treats, such as nuts, so that the child will want to drink, and therefore urinate more often during his training period.

The adult should choose a time when he can devote his full attention to teaching the child without distraction. With this method the average child requires less than four hours to train to toilet himself independently.--Others have been trained in only 30 minutes! By simply "teaching" the doll how to properly go potty, the child is actually teaching himself by imitation the steps to pottying independently.

Both the child and the adult praise the doll for having dry pants and "talk" to the doll to show disapproval when she "wets," then have the doll practice going to the potty. In turn, the child potties after the doll and is equally praised for pottying, or if he wets his pants during the practice period, is gently reminded by the adult to use the potty. Hope this helps!

I never read any books on potty training. I guess I was one of the lucky ones. I put a potty chair in the bathroom, next to the toilet. I was a stay-at-home mom, so I was there all the time. Whenever I went into the bathroom, my kids(2 girls, 1 boy) would follow me. I would have them sit ( they always wanted to when I did!) whether they did anything or not. I had always heard that boys were harder than girls, but I had no trouble. We never even had wet beds in the mornings. By the time my middle child was born, my oldest daughter was out of diapers at the age of 27 months. I just pretty much let them go at their own pace.

There is a fabulous movie called Potty Power that totally got my kid interested. Books, I read a lot, but this movie, really did the trick, you can get it on ebay or amazon.com. Good luck!

You don't need a book. Just be consistent with taking your child to the bathroom. Show your child how the toilet works and then put her/him on the toilet. Read a book with her/him while doing this. This will make them comfortable and even if he/she doesn't do anything, just make a big deal that he/she tried. Try this every hour. It may be tiring but it will eventually work.

Charmin (toilet paper brand) used to have a Potty Training kit that they send out if you ask for it. However, I have heard that they don't any more. Not sure if that's true. You can check.

  • i don't know about that but you can let that child sit there until she pee a few times and maybe it will get use to it
