How much coffee/ caffeine can a pregnant woman have a day?

I know that recent studies have shown it should be avoided but to what extent? How much a day is allowed?

Consuming lots of caffeine can also speed bone loss, and it might reduce birth weight and raise the risk of miscarriage. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should drink no more than two cups of coffee or four cups of black tea a day; to guard their bones, postmenopausal women should probably stick with the same limits. Caffeine can also precipitate heartburn, anxiety, and rapid heartbeat. People who experience any of those problems when they drink coffee or tea should at least cut back on the brew.

Not very much! If the woman has too much caffeine the baby may die and as well as herself! It might not happen, but it's a possibility. I guess I woman should maybe only 1 serving of caffeine a day or every other day even because caffeine can keep you up too and with a baby inside of you, you can get AWFUL cramps! I mean horrible! So as you probally might know the woman does not sleep very well when she is pregnant. 1 sering of caffeine every other day would be my answer to your question.

When I was pregnant I was a big coffee drinker, I totally cut it out until I was about five months along than I couldn't stand it. My OB said no more than 2 cups in the morning and I drank usually 1-2 cups only. My son is now 17 months old and totally normal and healthy. But I was also very healthy during preg. and had normal blood pressure. IF you have any health problems I would consult your ob. Good Luck!

it really just depends on if you want a hyper child. i drank coffee for a couple monthes but this pregnancy i am having a hard time getting anything down so right now im just eating what i can. the "what to eat when your expecting" book says you should refrain from all caffeinated beverages and chocolate as much as possible but mostly just teas because they have harmful antioxidants that can cause harm to your baby. ask your doctor if you dont find any help here, they may just tell you to stop all caffiene intake. ask and see.

I think its okay to have one cup of coffee, but avoid caffeinated tea, just switch to the decaf instead. Maybe you should try that with your coffee too, to be on the safe side. I use to work at a coffee shop, trust me you won't be able to taste the difference.

Your Dr is the best person to answer the question about totally avoiding it or just having it in moderation. There are other products besides coffee/ tea/soda pop that contain caffeine. Chocolate is very high in caffeine so anything chocolate should be added to your list.

Unless they have changed the rules, I believe you are to avoid it almost totally. Ask your GYN if you can have a cup of coffee a day. Most women just cut it out altogether because it's bad for the fetus.

I've had five children and could not have survived without caffiene. The more children I had the more energy I needed and the more caffiene I had.As a result of my mountain dew addictions, my childrens birth weights became smaller.Thankfully they were all healthy babies in every other aspect.

Im pregnant now and that was a main concern for me as well. But research shows that no more than 200 milligrams is safe. Even though i sneak and have more from time to time but not everyday.
