The true designation refers to the amount of traffic they get and function/design
An avenue is a straight road with a line of trees or large shrubs running along each side, which is used, as its French source venir "to arrive" indicates, to emphasize the arrival at a landscape or architectural feature
Historically, the term "parkway" has often implied that the road was designed specifically with a naturalistic or manicured landscaping of the median and adjacent land areas meant to suggest a pastoral driving experience
A boulevard is usually a wide, multi-lane arterial divided thoroughfare, often with an above-average quality of landscaping and scenery.
A street is a public parcel of land adjoining buildings in an urban context, on which people may freely assemble, interact, and move about
A road is an identifiable route or path between two or more places. Roads are typically smoothed, paved, or otherwise prepared to allow easy travel; though they need not be, and historically many roads were simply recognisable routes without any formal construction or maintenance. In urban areas roads may pass along and be named as streets, serving a dual function as urban space and route.
Confused? Me, too.

Pkwy = parkway, a wide "street" with trees, shrubs or flowers planted in a dividing strip and/or on the sides
Rd = road, anything from a gravel covered narrow passage to a two lane paved road
St = street, used more for city descriptions of roads
Dr = drive, used more for urban descriptions of roads
Blvd =boulevard and Ave = avenue, these are similar, usually winding and along more scenic routes both in city areas and in urban areas

What a great question. I never thought about it. I always just figured they were chosen by whatever sounded better with the name ... eg. Main Street sounds better than Main Road, Park Avenue sounds better than Park drive...
I wonder if there is a set definition for each term.

It ALL depends on the size of the road.. the smallest being a WAY (wy) and the largest being a BLVD.

education is sweet, because it teaches you a thanks to learn, a thanks to discipline your concepts. understanding for a Christian is understanding the note, understanding your God, His nature, His will, His outlook on issues. information is searching at issues from God's perspective and putting them into action. understanding is excellent, yet too a lot of it may puff you up in case you do not counteract it with fruit of the Spirit. Ever comprehend someone who's very knowledgeable, yet has no temperance and no love? Their understanding is basically about ineffective in the destiny. yet information? you locate that and your soul shall stay, because once you locate information, you locate the way God Himself looks at a situation. Proverbs 3: via information the Lord laid the earth’s foundations, via knowledge he set the heavens in position; via his understanding the watery depths were divided, and the clouds allow drop the dew.
