I'd like something that was about 30ft x 30ft in size. I'd enclose it on all 4 sides with a border of thick woodland/natural plants and the border would be about 10ft thick. On one side, I'd have an arbor as a doorway with something like Sweet Autumn Clematis to cover the arbor.

Inside, I'd plant ferns, hostas, astilbe and ditch lilies along the edge of the woodland border. Near the center, I'd plant some birch trees to give a little shade...but not too much. Under the birch trees I'd have a pond with a fountain and koi. I'd also put a Japanese maple near the pond...or maybe a weeping cherry tree.

I would have a few paths in my secret garden with stone benches so I could sit and enjoy the different areas. I would also have a lot of large boulders and rocks which would divide the areas of the garden up into little rooms.

As for decor...I'd have a few odd statues here and there plus some stone birdbaths and some birdfeeders hanging from the trees.

Most of all...I'd like it to be colorful, yet serene. LOADS of plants that would attract all kinds of birds, butterflies, toads and frogs.

That would be my ideal secret garden. :-)

The little space of my own would have things grow in all seasons. Like Orchids and beautiful smelling Jasmine. Primroses of each and every colour and poppies especially the blue Meconopsis.Bluebells and daffodils growing out of season. All the different colours of the lotus flowers laying gracefully upon my pond.Surrounded by a big oaktree that has a secret door.It would have to be the world for bluetits and butterflies because all these things make a secret garden special. But most of all my secret garden would have to be filled with love and wishes. Wishes for all dreams possible. Mmmm. that would be nice.

My husband and I did have a "Secret Garden", which we also named our B&B after. We took the name came from the classic book The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett, in the book a little boy gained his strength and health through visits to that Secret Garden. When we planned our own secret garden, we chose plants and props that would stimulate the senses of anyone visiting it, using colour, textures, aromas and sound. So I would have to say, fill your garden with things that will stimulate your senses and enjoy!!!!

    The things that I miss,

    Stephanotis blossoms, and Roses.

    Orange trees and Mangoes.

I love watching humming birds, Honey bees, and solitary wasps.

Oh, Grape vines, and in the fall SEDUM, the bees go crazy for Sedum in the fall. I could sit for hours and watch who comes to the Sedum to drink!

I also would want a pretty stream running through it. One that pools in a corner of my garden so I could have Koi, but no Duck weed, Lily's , and deep cold black/clear water in winter.

    Winter berry bushes and Holly,

Hemlock and Spruce, Red twig and yellow twig Dogwood bowing down laden with new snow.

Winter birds like Cardinals and Juncos, Sparrows, Nuthatches.

I think I need some Grey River Birch and Curly willow!

Swamp Maples, The ones that turn to Fire in the Fall, and Joe Pie weed for the fall to go with the Golden rod and the Asters.

It would be so peaceful to watch a turtle or a garter snake catch the last warm rays of summer on a rock beside my pond.

O.K. so for the rest of the world, I am about to ruin this picture...I want my three grand sons,my border collie, German shepherd, my basset hound also to be in this bucolic picture! Sorry world, I love them most of all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

    Hum...I have loads of ideas:

Japanesse garden with a stunning little wooden bridge with beautiful singing birds....

A secret treehouse where I could go to get away from it all

But my favourite would look like something from Charlie and the Chocolate factory (the original) when they first see all those chocolates and sweets!

    What a great question!

Interesting question...my secret garden would be in a forest of hardwood trees, with green moss underfoot, and some stones where you could sit and listen to the birds. There would be a little brook running through it. In summer, it would be cool, green, and shady. In winter, the sun would shine through the bare branches. I can't think of anything that I would need to add.

I would plant lots of beautiful sweet peas, lily of the valley and pink and white roses. I'd have a stream running through it with a little bridge, a wishing well, a sundial and a bird table. There would be lots of wild flowers and willow trees, so that there would be places for kids to hide and make camps. And to top it all, a two storey treehouse for my kids to play in.

But I do have a secret garden. Doesn't everyone? It is the place we keep everything we have ever loved or would ever like to love. Our hopes and dreams. Our secret passions.

However, I won't tell you what is in it. If I did it wouldn't be my secret garden any more.

it would be a beautiful little glade surrounded by big trees, very private, the ground would be covered in thick, luxurious mosses

with ferns and hostas everywhere, there would be a small goldfish pond in the center with waterlilies and some of my favorite fish, wild hydrangea bushes scattered around for flowers

it would be so quiet that you could only hear birds, there would be no bugs or mosquitoes!
