Have you ever mistaken a person's kindness for weakness?

I have and I regret it. As I grow older, I have a greater appreciation for simple things like kindness, sincerity, respect, etc. When I was younger, I thought that if a person was too nice, they were just "soft". What about you?

Love the question! I see people taking peoples kindness for weakness practically everyday, and it kind of boggles my mind. Many men and even women also seem to think, if you are the type of person who gets mad and angry, you are strong. When truly to get angry or mad is a personal weakness. It is a lack of self control and inner discipline. That is another similar, common misconception in our society today. Don't judge a book by it's cover is a very good saying to live by in many aspects. I too had some ridiculous perceptions of why people acted in certain ways when I was younger, and I'm sure we all have. I'm sure I have mistaken a persons kindness for weakness, but it has been along time. Live and learn as they say.

I do find myself sometime astound by sudden kindness of a good samaritan. However, I could not help contemplate on the motives of such reality TV shows as giving away free homes and cars to those in need. The 'softness' of these TV producers' feeling is the farthest from my thought. Their selfish reasons disguised in their gestures disgust me.

Showing courtesy builds character. I could choose not to hold open a door for someone because they are too slow a walker and will take up time or maybe that they are strong enough to do it on their own. How ever when I hold a door open for someone I demonstrate that I am strong and that I value someone as an individual and it does not take away from my stature as man by rendering this service.

Funnily enough people still do it to me now!

Yet I believe i have some of the broadest shoulders (physically and emotionally)

I truly believe it is immaturity. Some people grow out of it some don't

my dear old dad who had an iq of a genius...use to say...never mistake my kindness for stupidity...

i say it takes even more of an intellect..to think more of the other person..and, even though they may be trying to pull a fast one...that..you let it slide so to speak...
