Horrible urine smell around toilette.....?

That is why I hate carpeting in bathrooms, and the mildew from it too. It's probably soaked into the pad/wood under the carpet. Only way to really get rid of it is to remove it. Sorry....Actually, I would rip the carpet up, probably have mildew/mold growing in the wood underneath wherever it got soaked. That stuff grows quick, and then it'll cost you a lot more to replace. Just let the bare wood floor show, who cares you know? You know it's temporary. Just put some throw rugs down.

Our toilet tank leaked around the toilet area, and I had been wanting to rip up the carpeting in the bathroom since we moved in a few months ago. There was mold growing in a few places. Used some bleach and water spray, and scrubbed the heck out of it. Put some fans on it to dry it good. I picked up those press and stick linoleum tile squares at Big Lots for 8.00 a box. That was the cheapest I've seen, and they're not that bad looking, very easy to do. Definitely rip that carpet up though.

You can try the above temporary solutions for now but I think you realize the only permanent solution will be to remove the carpet.

Now one thing that might be a problem is... do you have wood floor boards under that carpet? The urine odor could will no doubt also be in the wood as well when you lift the carpet and just replacing the carpet with tile will not cover up the odor but it will still seep thru. I would suggest you talk to your local flooring store about what to apply to the wood before you apply your tile to seal in the odor without having to replace the wood. I know that Zinsser makes an fantastic product called BIN that will seal in odors and stain and is guarenteed (used to seal in walls before painting will seal in smoke damaged walls etc and odor) ... what I'm not sure of because I have not looked into it - is if you can tile over BIN. first i would use rid x in your septic take once a month . As for the smell you can go to the pet store and by carpet cleaner for urine smell these product are made to destroy the smell of urine so that pets dont use the same spot.... and also you might wasnt to check you wax ring under you commode if it is not sealing well you could either have a leak which is absorbed by the carpet and padding or you can just get the fumes from the septic hope this is healful

You really have to get rid of that carpeting. If there is plywood or some sort of sub-floor underneath, that flooring needs to dry out so that the urine smell will dissipate. Once the carpet is gone, wash the area with bleach to kill any mold that may have formed and then air out the room and let the flooring dry thoroughly. Once the odor is gone, you can use one of those inexpensive carpets that fit around the base of the toilet.

Thats why I would not have carpet in the bathroom. Take vinegar and pour around the the toilet and then take your steam cleaner and clean the carpet but you already said that you tried this... Well Have you tried bleach...try it as you said you could not afford new flooring but as long as you could get the smell down and out go for anything that quits the odor.....Sorry

A lot of good answers. Carpet removal is priority. The 'smell' is under the carpet/padding and in the wooden sub flooring. No other way around it but replace it.

Pure bleach has helped me and will kill mold too. Use plenty of ventilation though.

Spray with a 50/50 solution of whit vinegar. If that doesn't work go to a pet store and ask about products available for the neutrlizing of pet urine odors.

You have to remove that carpet!! Go with a bare floor for a while, that has to better than the smell. After you rip up the carpet, use bleach and water over the floor, or try vinegar and water. Good Luck!!

Sprinkle it in the carpet.

One should not have carpet in the BR for this reason. The BR floor needs to be able to be mopped. get the carpet out asap, and put tile down yourself. if you do the job, it won't cost so much. Your local building materials store may have free workshops on how to do this.
