Has anybody studied the Buddhist message in The Matrix before?

What do you think, is this movie a Buddhist movie, or the message in it is just coincidence?

Update:

The reviews say the movie has a hint of several religious practices, but Im more interested in Buddhism. Since I was raised in a Catholic household, I feel like I dont have the knowledge and authority to give my point of view, or to decide wether the movie has a Buddhist message or not. To put it in a few words, I feel like Im not literate enough on the subject :-)

Yes buddha said the whole universe is constantly changing and there is nothing truely called self or me,(mind body every thing changes with each fraction of second),what we see is not what actually there is,its like we live in a dream created by our mind, everything is impermenent.......

    ..........................................................................................................

These are some of the things buddha said

Buddhist believe in Karma & Reincarnation (Cause & Effect)

Our next life is determined from the things we do in this life (Good, Bad)

We try to find the ultimate freedom by purifying our mind from any bad thoughts....and by gaining ultimate wisdom...and achieve Nirvana

    We achieve this by Meditation

Our religion never shed blood in the name of religion

We believe every living things has the same right to live and our religion is opposed to killing of any living being (Animals, insects)

We don’t believe that god can bring us happiness or ultimate wisdom...........it’s our mind which can achieve anything....so we don’t worship GOD

We believe there is heavens and many other worlds in the universe

they don’t have any power on us they are worlds like us but only higher than us

When we die we go there according to our Karma. Nirvana is a state of mind, Its not heaven, we believe its better than heaven. Its ultimate bliss of mind

The next life is decided by the energy (Karma)....created by our mind. Nobody judges It, if we have good karma...good worlds….. bad karma...we go to bad worlds...its like water flowing down....its the way of the universe

    prowd to be a buddhist

That's not a great representation of the Buddhist practice. Head over to http://sgi-usa.org/ for a comprehensive view of Buddhism.

The writers wrote the movie with a Buddhist slant. Yes I've noticed this.

They used messages from many different religions & philosophies. Such as "Know Thyself"... the sign above the oracles door... this is one of the religious statements in Wicca.

Buddhist tend to be very peaceful.

In the matrix, everyone was kicking butt. It's more of a story of moral revolution!
