Over the past 20 years I have heard this question being asked many times.
There are a few reasons, besides the obvious, of agents being in-considerate.
When I first started my training included a section about showing and preparing a home to be shown, which off course mentioned to turn all the lights on and a bit off music, a nice odour, entice all the senses. But it also included issues like to make sure you stick with the client, to open and close doors, of closets, patio's and crawl space and basements.
While showing a property many agents will be focussed on the buyer's buying and feedback signals trying to answer and or respond to all the little questions and or concerns that come up during a showing. I do not bring these things up to find excuses for agents, but I must admit, in the context of trying to sell your home, turning off the lights is not the most top of mind issue at hand.
One of the other things we were tought at the time was, to leave the house in the same way we found it, so if you turned on all the lights, many agents will assume that you will want the lights to be left on, in case there are other showings following the current one.
My solutions and advise to my clients now is (and I provide clients with a little sign if needed) to place a little showing instruction sign at the entrance. This sign may include things like
Don't let the pet out, remove shoes, turn the lights on or off, invites to an open house and or garage sale, what have you.
I hope this answers your question, I promis to do better in the future and thanks for reminding us.
Good Luck with the house sale or house hunting

If the lights are on when I go into the room I leave them on. If I turn them on when entering I turn them off when leaving.
Try putting a note by your sign in sheet or on the front door reminding the agent to make sure all the lights are off.

a GOOD Realtor will turn off all lights and lock ALL doors when leaving the house at the end of the showing...if they don't get yourself a new agent yours is lazy, if your the seller and it was some other agent that did it not your listing agent then call them and ***** them out or and this is even better call them and ask to speak with there managing broker and tell them what the agent did...sorry you know 90% give the good 10% such a bad rap good luck. : )

They turn the lights on to show the house in it's best light. They should turn them off when they leave. Hopefully, they were just distracted because they had a potential purchaser for your home. Most are considerate.

They like to sell not to save a dime for the owner.
