How can I format & add RAM memory to my laptop?

Hi guys.

I've been wondering how can I SAFELY format my laptop's HDD. One of my roommates formatted a few months ago his laptop's HDD and he told me to be extremely carefull while doing so; he said he wrecked his since it constantly overheats causing unexpected shut downs.

GOOD NEWS: my dad showed me the last weekend the factory original WinXP os and hardware controller CD's that came in the pc's box when he boght it three years ago, I hope it will help, just in case.

Furthermore I would also like to know if its possible to upgrade the RAM memory. Currently it (mine) has 256MB and a Celeron 2.8GHz processor.

Do I have to do any configurations for my laptop to recognize tha memory bank? Do I have to look for a specific kind of memory bank?

The thing is How the hell do I do all the stuff!!!

Thanx for posting your comments. Any questions regarding all this things, just send'em =)

You can install RAM without doing any configuration to your laptop. Just plug-in the RAM in your laptop (hope you know where to plug-in) and switch on your notebook it will automatically detect RAM.

As for formatting your HDD you can try to insert the recovery disk which came along with the laptop when purchased. This CD would have an option for formating. Just follow the instruction for doing so.

    GOOD LUCK!

yup hes right.. installing a RAM on windows has no problem. it will be detected automatically. on formatting your loptop, insert winXp cd, the hit install fresh copy, the somwhere in the installation is format drive.

try to install the RAM first then format, the installation process will be faster when you have a faster RAM.

    remove the power cable

    open the laptop

put the ram cards in look to see how your other ram cards are in your new ram cards must go in the same way

then you close up the laptop and put the power cable back on then put your laptop back on you do not need to format the hard drive to add ram
