How do you restore your computer to an earlier date?

Ok...so my brother's computer went crazy and it won't allow him to get on the internet and it makes his entire computer IMPOSSIBLE to work with. It's soo slow and you have to wait 10 minutes for even the start bar on the taskbar to load. I was wondering...how do you restore the computer to an earlier date? I'm trying to figure out ways to fix it. Thanks.

Update:

Restore won't work. And the internet won't work at all. I also cannot run a virus test. What's goin on and how do I fix it?

Your thinking about system restore. It's a windows setting found in "System Properties" in the control panel. It work work, given your brother recently made a save point, which it sounds like he didn't since your asking about it.

If you cannot restore it to a recent date, I would back up all vital data and do a format of the hard drive and use a clean install of windows.

Best anti-virus in the world is the winows install disk! :)

If you have windows XP, go to the start menu and click "control panel." If you've got it switched it on to 'category view" then click on "performance and maintenence." Then on the left colum of that window you'll see an option for "system restore." It then walks you through the process. Good luck!
