If this is an essay you're writing for school, have the Declaration of Independence in front of you. List the ideas, then argue each, both ways--that we have equality for example, and that we don't. We have attained some or most of his ideals, at least partially. Give examples in support, then come to mini conclusions.

Check your history book to see what else Jefferson believed in. There are probably 2 or 3 more ideas. Again list these, and argue both ways.

Take a break, proof read, then do a quick summary with your final conclusion. Say which way you think we're headed -- more toward the ideals of Jefferson, or more toward a government and society ruled by tyranny.

Finally say what you think Jeff would do -- stay or go. (I think he'd jump back into the time machine asap, and go back to a more hopeful time.)

He would write a book called "Why?" Why did America annex the Phillipines? Why did America want Cuba? Why did America become a naval power and an empire? Why did America sell arms and lend money to Britain and France in WWI? Why did Woodrow Wilson abandon his Fourteen Points at the Paris Peace Conference? Why was America neutral in May 1940? Why did America want influence in Vietnam? Why did America want influence in Iraq? Why didn't the auto executives make electric cars?

He would join Bill Clinton and admit that the pu**y he had on the side was good too (Sally Hemmings). All of her descendents look like Jefferson.
