Rebel or Yankee.....??pls explain?

The american Civil War{a terrible bloodbath} finished in 1865.Thats 141 years ago.So, why do people refer to themselves as rebels or yankees even though the mason-dixie line no longer exists and you are all one nation.

In some respects the Mason-Dixon Line still exists in terms of regional perspectives we have on one another in the States. Yes, many might still refer to Northerners as 'Yankees' or Southerners as 'Rebs.' But you have to understand the psychological impact the American Civil War had on this nation's psyche. Yes, the war was over in 1865 but its impact was enormous...and still effects how people view each other, however erroneously.

It amazes me how so many people still will fight or argue about it. I'm from the South and it was the most embarrassing and retarded thing I've witnessed when a bunch of rednecks and white trash were out protesting the rebel flag being taken down from the courthouse and moved to another location. All happening on national TV. Making the South look like a bunch of morons.

It's a matter of personal pride in one's region of birth and current area of residence. If you really want to see this in action, call a Texan a "Damned Yankee" and see what happens!

  • Because the survivors handed down thier beliefs through the generations and the things you are taught when you are young never truely leave you.

Very few refer to themselves as "Yanks" it's only the juveniles who never grew up that refer themselves as "rebel" cause they think it's cool.
