How useful is Yahoo Answers to you and how can we improve it?
I find that Yahoo Answers is very useful to me especially in times in distress, when I can ask questions over the net without revealing my identity. I have indeed found some very good solutions to my problems. But there is still a lot of junk in the name of answers. Though Yahoo Answers is much better than Wikipedia because of the personal touch and better than Orkut because of the anonymity, there are still some loopholes here.
How do you think we can fix these teething troubles?

1. Do a spell check (and maybe a moderate grammar check) on all questions before posting them. Reject those questions are that grossly illiterate. There goes at least 40 percent of the questions.
2. Do a check on all "answers" and reject all answers that do not at least address the question...A quick "dunno" for 2 points gets rejected (and maybe a 20 point deduction). Also reject any answer that uses ad hominem (against the asker, like saying "You're stupid for asking this.") The question may be stupid and you can say so if you give reasons, but don't attack the asker. There goes 40 percent of the responses.
3. Require a "Best Answer" evaluation after 3 days. If an asker does not evaluate responses, deduct 50 points and block future questions for one week for the first offense...This would get rid of the backlog of unevaluated answers.
4. Ask users (maybe level 6 and 7) to evaluate question/answers on file (the 40 million) and pare them down by eliminating the junk or the purely trivial and leaving the good stuff in the database. This should eliminate about 39 million answers.
5. Maybe differentiate questions into at least two groups--the OK ones that are purely topical (like, What's your weather like tonight?) and the ones that belong in an encyclopedia. If purely topical, the asker is deducted 5 points, if encyclopedic, the user loses 10 points. But give a topical best answer 10 points (as now) and the other 25 points...and maybe 5 points for an answer, leaving the current 2 points for topical answers.

If you can make a fruit with all the contents of it being capapble of absorbed by our system without waste , we can make the yankoo answers also free of all junk. As you say , it helps people know a ot of things as well as it gives an opportunity to people to have thier say on anything . This is not a forum exclusively meant of experts to excange views or discuss only mattrs of advanced philosophies . it is good that it caters to the needs of people of various levels and it rpovides an opportunity of knowing the level of knowledge of people besides the misconceptions they have about so many matters in life . It also provides for some at times . it need not necessarily a very serious class room alsl the time. we can also learn tolerance when we see and allow people to express opinions that are contradictory to ours . We can not expect people top accept all that we say or to hold views acceptable to us only. We will not have anything to learn if we do not listen to people and to new idead and opinions if we do not listen . Open eyes and ears and closed mouths help us a lot to know . In my view there are some obscene thoughts and expressions at times . It only shows the existence of such thoughts and iedas in th eminds of certin people . Only when they give expressions to some such thoughts , that r they get an opportunity to get to know how and why some things are wrong when somebody gives them a suitable answer .The yahoo answers is doing much better than many sites and is surely helping people to learn and know more useful things . It will naturally improve as it grows as wee learn more as we grow.

ok as much as I believe you, turning Y!A right into a wiki based website won't paintings. That basically brings a sparkling difficulty of vandalism, which may be stressful to average. in spite of the fact that a extra conversational sense could be stable, possibly a miniature chat room form applet for each question? ought to open up new territory for debates. As with difficulty B, this isn't a Y!A fault. this is very own. i do no longer submit a sparkling question except it rather is unique, yet many people won't seek till now asking. If there is a thank you to repair this (possibly asking people to hunt first with the help of giving them a catalogue of comparable questions as they ask) it may be great. additionally, Y!A is fantastically stable because it rather is. in spite of the fact that the non secular areas ought to be stored to R & S...to frequently do I see people utilising God as an answer for different questions. besides the undeniable fact that i'm anti-non secular, I actual have a definite degree of tolerance. this is broken while somebody skill that a mentally stricken individual ought to look for God for advice extremely of seeing a professional.

For example when they answer i dont know , or i have no idea you should report them and get that crap removed. Same goes for non questions and questions in the wrong catagory . Also any abusive or foul language in answers or questions shoulkd be reported. Help get all the crap and stupid replys removed .
