Why does David Letterman sometimes run across the stage before he's introduced?

    He has to cross the stage to get to the spot that he walks out from during the introduction, and sometimes he's late getting there.

    He is a sweet eccentric guy, before his heart attack he used to be hyperrrrrrrrr. So running is a habit
