why only four, why not 16?

Four 275-foot-tall wind turbines were unveiled last year at the Naval Station at Guantánamo Bay in Cuba, meeting about a quarter of the base's electrical needs and saving hundreds of thousands of gallons of fuel.

Update:

I know that this administration is against alternative energy, but even so, others know it works, and the cost of the fuel itself is almost neglible compared to what it costs to ship it there, not to mention the environmental damage, again they dont care but it would make them look better

Update 2:

Ive been to cuba and they are actually very pro on renewable resources for energy, since russian aint paying the bills no more. I DO think it good that they have four, maybe they will put in some more, they do have room. I dont think it productive to name call about this subject, its too bad gore and clinton didnt install some, maybe they were too busy getting smacked down for monica.

Aren't you even glad that they're doing what they did? Why didn't the high priest of environmentalism (Al Gore) have them installed when he was Vice-President? At least Bush is doing something!

It's never "good enough" when a conservative does something for the environment. But Gore can give speeches about conserving energy and global warming, and then drives off in an SUV or flies in a Gulfstream IV, and no one cares.

Lastly, there is a consideration you might not have thought of. They are based in Cuba, and there are agreements in place. Castro might not want those things obscuring his view of the Gulf.

I would suggest, as a guess, that there are very severe space limitations. This would be both for the space they take up on the ground as well as their becoming obstacles for air traffic.

Also, they are very fragile and would be a potential target if the base were attacked. If all of the base's energy source can be taken out in one strike, that would be bad.

If they really save energy, maybe Teddy Kennedy won't mind having them in Martha's Vinyard after all.
