Hi, I'm from Thessaloniki Greece (the second largest city of the country). In January the weather is very cold. For fun there are plenty you can do. We Greeks just don't go to bed early. So, don't worry everything is open until the early hours. If you are a smoker it will be heaven for you cause you can smoke anywhere you like apart from public buildings (hospitals, etc.) We like to party so I think you will have a great time especially if you are between the age of 20-35.

    Hello dear!

Well, January and February are the coldest months in Greece! Although Greece has "small" land (131,000 square km) has plenty of sea, which mellows the weather! The weather in the south, like in Crete and coastal Peloponnese is much warmer than North and central Greece!

Thus, for this period, I would advice some days in Athens, the round of Peloponnese and Crete!

    Enjoy!

Greece has also a lot of mountains, like Parnassos. You can go there for skiing.Mountain Parnassos is close to Athens ,you can also visit there Delphi if you are interested of archeology and you have to stay to Arahova village. They call it the "winter Mykonos".Of course there are a lot other mountains all around Greece and if you decide to visit any of them, you won't miss, there are great.

January will be winter time, so it won't be the best time for islands. I guess you will be visiting Athens, where there are many archaeological ssites and a nice historic center, but you can also go to Delphi and Hosios Lukas ( a wonderful byzantine monastery) on Mount Parnassos, where there is a quite good ski centre.
