D.I Why.....?

A profoundly deaf man decided to make himself some shelves and, in order to do so, he went into a hardware store to buy a saw.

How did he indicate to the shop assistant that he wanted to buy a saw?

Being deaf doesn't necessarily make it impossible to just ask for a saw in plain English. "I would like to buy a saw please"

I presume he can still speak so he probably just asked for a saw... failing that he wrote down that he wanted a saw and showed the shop assistant... or simply just went and picked it up and took it to the till!?

He told him he wanted to buy a saw. He's deaf not mute.

he was deaf not dumb, so he could ask for one.

or possibly he picked just up a saw and went over to the counter with it.
