unbalanced 3 phase star connected transformer question?
The attached picture shows an unbalanced, 3-wire star connected three phase load, which is connected across the star connected secondary of a distribution transformer. Given that the secondary of the transformer has a line voltage of 415V and operates with Black, Grey and Brown phase rotation, determine the current flow in each of the transformer windings.
2 AnswersEngineering1 decade agoOhmic value and per unit calculations?
For the circuit attached, calculate the required sending end voltage (Vs), when a load of 1MVA, 0.8 power factor is supplied at 400V. Use both the ohmic value and per unit methods.
1 AnswerEngineering1 decade agoTransformer impedance matching question?
It is required to pass a current of between 6.0A and 6.5A through an impedance of (1.6 + 1.2i) ohms. With only a 230V supply available, it is proposed to use a transformer for impedance matching. A transformer is available with a turns ratio of 16:1. A laboratory experiment showed that with the secondary winding short-circuited, the input to the primary winding was 1A and 102.4W for an excitation voltage of 128V.
Determine whether the transformer would be suitable for this application.
2 AnswersEngineering1 decade agosetting up 2.1 system on my LCD tv?
Hi. I have a LG LCD television which I'd like to connect my recently bought basic 2.1 system to.
Supplied with the 2.1 system was one cable only, a 3.5mm "headphone" end to a 2RCA (red and white) end. Am I correct to assume that the 3.5mm end plugs into my tv and the 2RCA plugs into the rear of my sub into the "input" sockets?
If that is the case; I do not actually have a socket on my tv labelled "headphone", but one labelled "PC Sound" which looks exactly the same as a standard 3.5mm and indeed my cable fits into it fine and secure. Should this work as a standard headphone socket?
As it stands, I've checked my 2.1 by plugging said cable into my laptop headphone socket and it works fine, so I guess my main question is, should plugging the cable into my "PC sound" socket automatically mute the tv speakers and route sound through the cable, or is there an actual setting I need to activiate on my tv to do so?
Consulting the manual yields no results.
Many thanks.

a boiler rated at 500MWth (Mega-watts-thermal) has an output of 500 million joules per second. If the boiler is burning fuel with a calorific value of 350 000 kilo joules per kg, how much fuel is required per hour?
2 AnswersEngineering1 decade agoProblems setting up Home Cinema system?
I have a home cinema system I am having problems setting up. It's actually a Wharfedale DS-5957 + AL-604 DVD player and 2.1 set-up. It came with a standard AV cable (3 RCA at each end) and another cable which is 3.5mm male headphone to 2 RCA. Am I correct to assume that the 3.5mm jack is designed to go into the headphone socket on the TV and the other 2 RCA end into the "input" sockets on the back on the sub? If this is the case, what cable do I need to purchase in order to work around this as my TV (a new LG LCD) doesn't actually have a headphone socket? Any light anyone can shed would be greatly appreciated.
5 AnswersHome Theatre1 decade agoHelp getting the Sat Nav on the Medion MDSP150 to work?
Hi, bought myself a Medion MDSP150 Smartphone with the bundled Sat Nav hardware and software but having trouble getting it to work.
I've got power coming from the cigarette lighter to the unit (noticable via the green light on the Sat Nav box, which seems to flash at random) and a cable running from the GPS unit to the phone (which I've tested as working).
I boot up the Medion Navigator software, but it doesn't seem to detect the GPS unit.
Having fiddled with the settings, I found an option to change the GPS receiver, which I've left as Standard GPS.
Can anyone shed any light on this or point me in the right direction?
1 AnswerOther - Electronics1 decade agoHaving huge problems getting through to the Driving Standards Authority?
Failed my driving test yesterday (4 minors, 1 "serious" ffs) and need to book another test asap. I can't use the internet as the DSA very helpfully changed my licence number (without my consent) when I requested a replacement as I'd lost the paper part so now when I try to log in, my licence number doesn't marry up with theory test certificate number.
I've been trying to phone through to them (on 0870 0101 372, then options 2, 2, 2) but keep getting a generic "try later, cannot connect you message".
Is there any other way anyone knows of, of either booking a practical test, or getting my theory test certifcate updated with my new licence number so I can log in and book it online?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1 AnswerOther - Electronics1 decade agoQuestion for anyone who's had a holiday in Ibiza recently?
A few mates and myself (will be 4 or 5 of us in total) are looking to go to Ibiza this year, ideally staying in San Antonio around mid-late August for a week.
I went to Ibiza about 6 years ago with family, and it cost £360 a person, which was the total cost, staying in San An Bay.
I've been looking around for prices for Ibiza, and they seem to vary considerably, I've been quoted anything from £260 - £600, all for a week flying from Birmingham, self-catering - and that's the apparent total cost.
Just wondering how much other people have paid over recent years for a similar holiday as I can't seem to get a straight answer out of any of the operators.
Cheers guys.

31 AnswersElections1 decade agoVicious circle of not being in work?
I've been severely struggling to find work since leaving University last year, only having had a few temporary positions here and there.
My problem is that because I am so heavily stressed all of the time, it's starting to affect my health - I have never been ill so frequently as what I am now. Of course, the repercussions of this are that when ill, not only does one struggle to find motivation to do anything other than try to fight off being ill, one also finds it difficult to attend interviews in such a state of ill health.
Clearly, this is a vicious circle - the longer one is out of work, the more stressed you get etc you get the idea.
Has anyone else been in this awful situation?
I'm struggling to see a way of this situation improving, if I'm being quite honest.
13 AnswersCareers & Employment1 decade agoLooking for help with a name of Polish origin?
I went to University with a lad I've lost touch with but would like to get in contact with him.
I'm trying to search various sites, but I can't for the life of me remember how to spell his last name, I've tried googling with what I think is the closest match but it comes back blank.
It is pronounced "Scripchick", but obviously spelled differently.
It's something like Szkrepczeck, but that could be completely wrong.
I'm kinda hoping some Poles with read this and be able to point me in the right direction of what this surname could be.
Cheers for any help.
6 AnswersOther - Social Science1 decade agoPoker (Holdem) against amateurs?
I'm angry.
Just lost another f*cking tournament against what can only be described as the luckiest **** in the world. The last two hands;
(4 people left in from 10, $50 buy in, I've got $3500 left, $10000 in total on table, blinds are $200/$400)
Dealt (A,7) (suited, diamonds) big blind
two players fold, small blind raises $200, I call.
Flop (A,2,10) (2 and 10 and diamonds)
he raises $500, I call.
4th Street (7) (so I've currently got two pair, flush draw)
he raises all in ($1750) I call.
Turn them over, he's holding (2, 5) (unsuited)
River comes, (2) - marvellous. So he called in-all with a pair of two's and hit on the river.
Last round.
Dealt (K,Q) (spades)
I call in all, 1 person calls
Turn them over, he's holding (3,6) (unsuited)
Flop (Q,3,6) (no spades)
Turn (10)
River (4)
Marvellous.
What can you do against players who go all in with a *%$£ (3,6) and pair of twos?
I can't play anymore, it's making me depressed.

What did the pilot report?
