cmd.exe scrollbar?

Whenever I use cmd.exe under XP, it seems to randomly give me a scroll bar or not.

How can I ensure I get a scroll bar everytime I use it?

The best way is to modify the Start Menu shortcut used to start cmd.exe. If you right-click on this and look at Properties, you'll see a very different menu than you're used to for regular programs.

Under here, find Layout and set the Screen buffer size Height much larger than the Window size Height. Mine are set to 3000 and 25 respectively. You will always have a scrollbar now since the command window can hold 3000 lines.

If you've never seen these properties before, explore the font and color options too -- you can make things look much better than the defaults!
