In many cases, local govts are extorting money from inmates in order to "pay for their prison time" with the threat of violation of probation and more prison time if they dont pay up. St. Clair county in Michigan is one of them and I was a victim of it! I had to pay a $2000 "supervision fee" that I didnt have to the court for 22 days of imprisonment. Do you think I honestly cost the taxpayers $2000 in jail? NOPE!

I realize now that there does need to be laws and punishment in order to promote a just society, but some jails are getting away with what is no better than extortion. If they really wanted to tack on penalty they should have had me do community service which may have actually help teach a lesson on what community is. But that was never even on the table!

It's something like 30 or 40 K per year, on the other hand a bullet only costs a quarter.

  • i was watching a show on A&E and they said it was approximately $68 for min security and double for max. $136 at 365 days a year is more than the average American makes yearly. ($49,640) These costs are based on food, supplies, activities for inmates and of course the salaries of all who work in a 'super max'
