Does anyone agree with this?

This is a sensitive type of question. As a mechanic, I make just as much money fixing both foreign and domestic. Quality is NOT that different any more. Toyota lead the recall parade in 2005. Chrysler is leading so far in 2006. Yes, we are destroying our own economy buy not buying home made products. This started several years ago. First it was t-shirts, then shoes, then stereo, then the rest of electronic industry, etc... The biggest issue for domestic auto makers is their own dealer network. The people really give the big three a bad name. Had a Ford EXP which I got 209k miles, just general maintenance. My Nissan was a total piece of crap. Go figure. As for the Patriotic thing I am indifferent. There is no 100% American car. P.S. Canada does not count as American.

You are right and wrong. In the 70s and 80s, American cars were the pits. "Our" auto manufactures, up on their ivory towers, had the mind set that "If we build them, "they" will buy them. The quality was bad, the warranty repair shops looked at us as "them" and gave us NO respect. Well, by the time they looked down from their ivory tower....the forge in manufactures had 30% of the market in the US. American Manufactures had a RUDE awakening. As they "played the fiddle" the American public was rapidly shifting to the Toyota, Honda and others. Now, every Tom, Dick and Harry countries are flooding the US with "their" cars. I can't even name all the different makes now. At any rate, the American auto manufactures, after the rude shock, begin to make decent autos. I believe, now, they American autos are either equal or near the quality of forge in cars. MANY forgone cars are made in the US now, especially Toyota and Honda. Un-patriotic?? How do you feel about it? Perhaps it is, but it sure straightened the American Auto Manufactures up....pronto. They lost one heck of the car sells and will NEVER get it back. Live and learn. Pops

First of all, none of them are cheap. I think the american car makers haven't been doing their homework all these years on economy and reliability, but now they are getting a wakeup call and it's really knocking them in the head. The american car companies are the reason people buy imports. Patriotism is very important, but maybe the north american car companies aren't patriotic for building and trying to sell junk!

The word patriotic gets thrown around way too much with little regard as to its meaning... but at any rate, for the same price as the crap coming out of detroit you can get a highly reliable import with 2 to 3 times the warranty. American car companies need to stop playing the "it's american, you should buy it because it's american" and start making cars people want.

American cars cheap? Are you out of your mind? American cars are nothing of the sort. Yes Honda's and Toyota's are good but you want a solid car that is comfortable buy American. There nicer to work on there parts are cheaper and your mechanic will like working on it better if he has any pride in his country.

If there were a level playing field I would understand, but American car companies not only have to pay union wages to the blue collar workers, but they also have to pay handsome pensions to the white collar workers.
