How big is the film industry in New York City?

Televison wise, it's a large city.

As far as Movies, it's quite small. New York is too contricting and expencive to make a Major motion picture, and some will even say that New York City doesn't have the urban metropolitan look of a major city, unless sites needed such as Time Squere or A certain building or landscape shot.

Chicago is the second hollywood and the orginal first, this is the city LA goes to for outside west coast filming. Chicago is cheaper, more urban, open to a wider range of movies and venues, and has a movie history which makes it a natral second choice.

New York also has it's own venue, being the home of Broadway, New York City is home to live theater and the stage. It's hard to have two major venues in one city, Chicago is the second home of Film, Theater, and the major home of Music.

i'd say Toronto (as a community) is greater like NYC (as a community), than la (as a community).
