thanks...more math help??

thanks so much to those that answered my question. (unfortunatly im a little slow at math and i dont understand anything without an explanation.)

MY NEW QUESTION

When theres a problem inside the paranthesis are you supposed to change the answer to its opposite integer?

example:

(3-7) - (9-12)

Would it be

-4 + 23?

9-12 = -3, and yes you would change the sign, so it would be (-4)+(3). =-1

  • There's two ways to do this.

First, solve the innermost parenthesis first and then work out from there.

    (3-7) - (9-12)

    3-7 is -4 and 9 - 12 is - 3

    -4 - -3

Subtracting a negative gives you a positive. (e.g., getting rid of a three dollar debt is just as good as earning three dollars. Either way, you're three dollars ahead.)

    -4 + 3 = -1

The other way is to use the fact that multiplication is distributive.

    (3 - 7) - (9 - 12)

    (3 -7) + (-9 + 12)

[I took the -1 from the outside of the parenthesis and moved inside by mutliplying both 9 and -12 by -1. x(y + z) = xy +xz ]

    (-4) + (3)

    -4 + 3 = -1

For this problem, it's easier to use innermost parenthesis first method. Later, in alegbra, you'll run into trickier problems where you will have to distribute.

solve the numbers inside the parenthesis first

    (3-7) - (9-12) =n

    ( -4) - (-3) =n

    (-4) + (3) = n negative x negative = + that is why 3 became +

    -1 = n

I can see that you have different answers to choose from. Go with the answers which have you do the operations inside parentheses first. Then look at signs .

    ( -4 ) - ( -3) = -4 + 3= -1

The answers that end up with -1 are the answers you need to look at to help you understand the process. Hang in there and keep asking questions.

no. It would be worked out like this:

    (-4) - (-3)

Then you would change the - to a + and the -3 to a positive 3.. it would then look like this:

    -4+3= -1

    hope that helps any

    It is -4 + 3 so it equals -1.

this is so easy you cant do math Jesus....

    (3-7)-(9-12)

    -4--3

kcc=it means keep change change if your not in high school or higher you wont know what it is so this wont be valid to you

    -4--3

    -4+3

    -1 that simple

    do the parenthesis first so:

    (-4)-(-3)

now change the one after the - :

    (-4)+3 = -1

    you got it half right.

    the second part:

    -(9-12), should be -3 first

then negative negative, becomes a positive and therefore

    -4+3 += -1
