what do you think about Walmart cutting out Law-a-way??

It's a load of crap. Screw the children's toys, what about mine? I'm a toy collector, and I use it a lot. When a new shipment comes in, I have to put a few in layaway if it's not the week I get paid. Damn Wal-Mart.

Personally no.

I think it's a sound business move.

People place many things in layaway then either come back and change them placing seasonal items back into stock outside of the season or cancell the layaway.

If you need time on a purchase put it on a credit card or save up and buy it. Walmart, target ETC are not banks and layaway is not a savings account. Just buy it or pass on it.

I personally work a second part time job. 2 weekends a month. I give my wife 25% of the second income for christmas as I work the job the rest is for my hobbies. To date this year she has 1500.00 to spend on her kids and our relatives. She has bought quite a few items already cash we dont use layaway. If a store wanted to resume layaway I believe that a 50% down is needed and 1 month duration. If the buyer misses/changes they need to lose the down payment. The layaway everything then resort what I can afford buyer would be penalized for their arrogance.

As an associate of Wal Mart ..About time..BUT as a Wal Mart shopper who is broke all the time, It SUCKS BUTT big time..Here are MY pros and cons of this layaway business:

Pros's From an associates view

1) no more freezing our buns off to go fetch a package out of the trailers.

2) No more frozen locks that have to hopefully be de thawed with either a blow torch or deicer..

3) no more broken off keys in locks that are frozen shut

4)No more sliding on ice to the trailers

5) no more lost packages -therefore upset customers ( who have every right to be upset)

Con's being a shopper at wal mart

1) no more layaway for Xmas for family

2) if this also means jewelry too then I have to find a new place to buy some of my jewelry

3) Since I just found out that I can put tires on layaway, and they are doing away with it then no putting tires on layaway ever.

4)no putting new wal mart attire on layaway

5) no more putting high ticket ( well high ticket in my book..lol) on layaway

6) means i will actually have to save for anything i really want from wal mart

7) if I'm that desperate K mart is nearby and I could use there layaway and pay a non refundable fee to place things on layaway- that's bites..

8) the assoc of layaway will have to find new spots in the store to work now since there job is being eliminated.- I feel for those who really just don't want to be on the front end etc..

it seems likely that walmart would. After they win the hearts of the bargain shopper and pop up everywhere - sucking the life out of small towns by running out all other businesses that can not compete with their low prices and all in one shopping ! They will start raising prices and cutting out what makes u come there in the first place, I totally expect that from Walmart. I try not to shop there for everything but in a small town it is HARD .. .I dont really use lay a way any more but I remember I used to for christmas and it came in handy since people that are expecting christmas bonuses dont get them until all the good sales are over!

I think that Walmart is not a bank. If you want to save money for christmas there are banks that offer christmas accounts. Do not get me wrong I don't like Walmart but I have worked retail and there are problems with Layaway. Most stores have done away with it. It takes huge areas of space to store the items. It ties up their inventory. Alot of it gets put back and it takes extra time for the employees to handle it. It is not cost effective and those stores are in the business to make money , that is simply the facts. They are not a charitable organization.

Its such a shame that walmart had to cut out their law a way. I didn't really use it that much. only around christmas time if I needed to, but I still feel bad for the people who depended on it for christmas. That's very sad. I just might boycott Walmart too!

I can't believe it. You are so right. That's how we Christmas shopped by putting stuff in layaway. The sad thing is now that I don't think any stores have layaway left. At our Walmart this will be the last Christmas that they have it. I don't know MAYBE if enough of us complain they will reconsider.

I think it sucks. I don't really use layaway much, but have a lot of friends who do. Wal mart is trying to appeal to a higher income group like Target does. I think they need to realize that is was the lower/working class that made WalMart! I don't blame them for wanting to improve and bring new customers, but not at the expense of those who made them!

I just want to agree with all those people that think this new policy stinks. I too am boycotting walmart. I was going to put in a layaway this month, which you can still do, but I figure if they want to be that way I can shop someplace else.

Yeah it does suck! My mom works at Wal-Mart too. She heres all kinds of complaints about this. They say alot of ppl. who have law-a-ways if they don't never come back for them Wal-Mart loses money on the item. By the time there actually able to put the stuff back on the floor it is clearanced. I can see why they would stop law-a-ways to save cost but, its not fair for those who actually pay for theres on time. Who knows they may change there mind b/c Wal-Mart may lose a little business. Hope they do change there mind!!!
