if denominations within a religion cannot agree on their beliefs..?
how can they expect to convert those out of their fold? with so many branches/ sects/ denominations of the major religions in existence, does this not take away from the validity of their claims, which are always presented as absolutes?

I tend to think of it as an all you can eat buffet. Take what looks good. If you have to ask about the ingredients, stay the hell away.

Because Christians cannot universally agree is why we have denominations. The same is with Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism and all other isms. If atheist and agnostics were organized, there would be denominations within those two groups. It is normal for people to disagree and it normal for people to gravitate towards other people of like thinking. there is discord within denominations, and not every church within a specific denomination will teach exactly the same thing. Jesus will get all of this straightened out when he returns. He will separate the sheep from the goats. The sheep will go to heaven and the goats will be thrown into hell.
