What do you think about USA requiring Passports (starting in Jan of 2007) just to visit Canada and Mexico.?

Passports aren't cheap nor hassle free to obtain.

It's not too difficult. I went on Monday and applied for mine. I did everything at the post office including my photographs. It is a little pricey for some, but not too bad. I paid a grand total of $112.95 but it is that much for the convenience of one-stop shopping! Also, the passport is good for 10 years, so if you average it out, that's only about $11 to come and go without too much hassle! I say, get them now before the big rush! I live in San Diego and cross into Mexico a couple times a year. For me, it will be worth it. Good luck!

And for what reason do you need a passport to go between the US and Canada ?? Its just another diss by the US to Canadians It will slow down trade between the 2 countries Force problems for trucking and just be a non required impeadence.. It was never ever required before and it isnt now. Just another metheod of controll by the Bush Goverment to stop the thousands of terrorists that cross into the US from Canada I guess,, That and the mad cows..

The prior rule that did not equire passports was convenient, but times have changed. It will cut down on impulse trips, but is doable. Really, everyone should have a passport. They are not hard to get. they just take a while.

awesome idea!!! should have been done years ago. if you can afford to go traveling or on vacation to another country, you can afford a passport. and actually, if you are a LEGAL citizen that is not trying to hide anything, passports are as easy to get as a drivers license!!

First they are easy to get and don't cost that much.

And most nations do require a passport to come and go form our nation.

I think it is a great idea.

What's the problem? You don't kick about having to get a driver's license to run a motor vehicle. It's a very small thing which can help keep all of us safe. http://lifeloom.com/

I don't visit the US anyways, so it won't affect me.
