Does anyone have weird or unusual travel quirks/traditions?

I just came back from a road trip with my boyfriend and we were discussing travel quirks or traditions. Like me I always stay in the middle or right lane unless I am passing someone. A friend of mine would always go to the inside of a curve because he thought it saved him gas. Or another friend would stay behind 18-wheelers when going up hill becuase he thought the air draft from the truck would help pull you up the hill while using less gas. My question is what is your unusual travel quirk/tradition? Please share!

When my husband and I arrive at a destination, he takes a bunch of those tourism leaflets into the bathroom while he's doing his business and plans out our stay within the time it takes. It's really funny, but it has never failed and we always make sure to do this.

As a long time business traveler, one quirk I have learned which everyone should use is this: Don't eat your favorite food, but eat the food that the area you're visiting is known for.

Being from NJ, right outside NYC, I don't bother eating Italian food anywhere else anymore, it's always a disappointment. So when I go somewhere I eat their specialty. For example, in the south I eat Barbecue and drink Sweet Tea. In Cincinnati and the Great Lakes area I eat Skyline Chili or "Coneys". In Chicago I have Chicago Hot dogs. In L.A. I eat Mexican food. In Florida I eat Cuban Food.

Not only is the food better this way, but I see it as a way of communing with the land I am visiting. For example, in New Mexico, I always eat New Mexican food that's made with Chili's grown in Hatch, NM, the Chili capital.

Try this, and I guarantee your experiences will be better because you will truly become a part of the land you are visiting!

I dont know if this is a travel quirk/tradition but I always have to shower after getting off the plane when I get to my hotel. I feel like my trip hasn't started until I showered. I feel like I am still carrying home with me. Is that weird?
