The whole issue about Cell phones is a real dilemma. Most parents provide the siblings with cell phones so that if something like 9/11 happens, or they have an illness like epilepsy they can stay in touch. UNFORTUNATELY some are using cellphones to make drug deals, detonate bombs, and engage in other illegal activities. A classic case where we are deprived of our rights just to protect the majority from a few criminals.

Are the schools involved public or private? That makes a difference...
In private schools, you or your parents may have signed a document permitting this form of discipline. In public schools, there are policy considerations, and you'd have to check whether the city has enacted legislation allowing authorities to confiscate contraband (and I'd bet they have.)

Hmm... It seems like they should let you keep it in your locker or whatever. They must have had a peoblem with students being distracted by phones and using them at inappropriate times.
