Why do you sometimes see blind people wearing a blindfold?

I live near a school for the blind and often see people with canes and sunglasses going about their business in the neighborhood. What I don't understand is why some of them would wear eye shades, the kind that you might wear to bed (or on a flight) to completely darken the room. I know most blind people have some vision, some perception of light, so why would they want to diminish that?

some of these people still have very little vision, little light, and trainers blindfold them so they can learn how to do everything in total darkness, so they will be ready when all the light goes away. [it can go very fast] i have a friend that went though the training, and was losing sight fast, and she had to use a blindfold also. it is best for them at the time they train to cope with complete vision loss...

The light actually does bother them so they wear dark glasses or blindfolds. It's like staring into the sun.

After months or years of atrophy, these people's eyes tend to become... let's say weirdly-angled. This can have a negative impact on their aesthetic worth, and thereby, to offset this, they wear these things.

    Hope I helped!

because it hurts thier eyes how long can you look at a bright lite in the dark it hurts your eyes so they cover them up to protect them from that

I think it is so seeing people will not be offended by their eyes or lack of eyes.
