Like the character Teaspoon on the Young Riders TV series. He ate onions like they were apples.

I can't eat a whole raw onion, but I love plenty of sliced red onions on branschweiger sandwiches and hamburgers. I've also been known to dip raw red onion slices in veggie dip or ranch dressing.
My husband can't stand onions, though. . .I'm tellin' ya, a nice big liverwurst and onion sandwich is more effective than, "Sorry, honey, I have a headache tonight" any time!

YES I HAVE!!
A few years ago we were touring central Spain and visited a brand new Cistercian monastery in Avila, and this monk was showing everybody around, and later the nuns (it was a nunnery) served a snack and the monk pulled out an onion, peeled the outer layer off, and started munchin away!!
Everybody was staring you know, so he smiled and said it was very healthy and that was about it.
Weird huh? But true.

No, I never knew anyone who did that. I know I couldn't do it even though I like onions.
Good question. It will be interesting to see how many people do eat them.

years ago i met a friend and went to her parents house for dinner, they served raw onion, pinto beans and corn bread. i started cutting up the onion for the beans and they showed me how to eat the raw onion with a little salt on it and bite it and eat it. i was surprised, it was OK but not for me in the long run, too strong....

My ex-father-in-law used to.
My Grandmother used to eat Red Onion sandwiches, just onion and white bread. No butter, mayo, mustard...just onion and bread.

Yes, my mother used to do that when she was a child, but she ate them with biscuits. This was, after all, in the American South. I wonder whether she might have found a better husband than my ex-father if she had not.
