Head-banging his way to sleep?!?

My son has a habit of banging his head on a pillow or the mattress in order to send himself to sleep! It started when he was around 9 months, I thought it would be a temporary situation but he's 2 years and 3 months now and he continues to do that. Is that normal? Is there a way to stop him or will he just eventually grow out of it?

my brother did this when he was about the same age. It worried the hell out of my mother, she asked our doctor, who said it was just his way of tiring himself out and he would grow out of it (in his own good time). My brother is now 43, and apart from obvious jokes (me being an older sister) he seems pretty normal to me

My daughter "bounces" on the couch when she is sleepy. "Bouncing" as in rocking front to back bouncing her head off the back of the couch. She started this when she was around 1 1/2 or 2, and would often seem she would bounce herself off the couch. She is now 6 and still occasionally does it, but not as hard anymore. I'm pretty sure it is just a comfort thing since she only does it when she is tired. I wouldn't worry about it unless he is hitting his head on something hard.

I do the comparable element. i'm 21 and that i've got performed it experience i could carry my head. i do no longer do it to bypass to sleep anymore till i'm having hassle falling asleep. I often do it interior the morning in the previous my alarm is going off. that is purely about like an attempt to stay asleep till the alarm is going off. I shake my suitable foot back and forth to boot! I even have severe irrational rigidity meaning i'm getting thoroughly immobilized with concern of issues that isn't take place. as an occasion especially situations i'm going to get afraid of the earth falling. i be attentive to that is impossivle yet while my rigidity kicks in I no longer think of normaly. while this occurs I bang my head to relax me and shop my suggestions off it. as quickly as I first began doing it my mom become very concerened and delivered me to the docs. The wellness care professional pronounced and that i fairly "yup, in easy terms a head banger. no longer something to fret approximately. He might improve out of it, or he won't." He pronounced the reason being the consistent rhythm like your mothers coronary heart beat or while your being cradled back and forth. I look too be doing ok!!

My step-sister has been doing it since she was a toddler. She is 30 now and still does it. The doctor said that it has something to do with an anxiety disorder. She doesn't know why she does it. So maybe take your son to the doctor for an assessment.

I would suggest that you take him to see his doctor. I believe it is a sign of anxiety or stress. It comes out in everyone differently. However, it could be a sign of something else. If your doctor doesn't have any solutions, maybe he can recommend a counselor that deals in infants and small children. They would have the best advice for you.

Lots of kids head bang ,i did, dont stress he will out grow it. Just make sure he is happy and healthy. Some kids are just more tense than others and thats how they relieve it.
