Any good stocks?
Are there any good solid stocks on the market that tend to do the opposite of what the rest of the stock market is doing? Go up when everything else is going down, and go down when everything else is going up?

Those are stocks with a negative beta. There are very few if any. About the best one can do is select stocks with very low betas, meaning they have a very low corrolation to market movements.
Yahoo screen does list a few large cap companies with negative betas. I am dubious.

Look into QID. This an ultra short ETF that tracks the NASDAQ.
When the NASDAQ is down QID is up.
It is new, and very volatile, so it may be higher risk than you are interested in.
If you are looking for defensive stocks that tend to go up or at least not fall as hard when the market tanks, look at consumer goods companies like MO, PEP, PG, JNJ.
These stocks tend to do poorly when the rest of the market is hot.

Historically, US Tobacco (UST) does well when the market tanks. That is because they have a monopoly on an addictive product (smokeless tobacco).

Survey says...............invest in things that you buy! For instance, the brand of shoes you wear, the brand of toothpaste you use, and the fast food joints you like!

I think AT&T (T) is great for the long term. I also like Aspreva (ASPV) and Canon (CAJ).
