There were much more of these events in that period .
Amazing but i've heard more than one similar story from the Americans point of view . I guess that's why it was the Cold War.

Source(s): On Discovery they showed another one. It was an American secret airport were the guy in charge gave the order for more than five airplanes equiped with nuclear missiles to take off at their predefined route ... Russia . All because of a bear making a rattling noise at the surrounding fence and a patrol guard who noticed too late what was it about . They said the order for the planes to stop was given when they were almost at the end of the runway. So it's more like " some guys saved the world in the 80's or some guys almost screwed it up in the 80's " - 1 decade ago
