Ethical misgivings about neutering a dog?

I really believe it is showing human being's superiority over animals, when in fact, we are equal. Yet, I listened to all the "hype" and had my dog neutered yesterday. Now I feel guilty, like he is never going to be the same.

And,---how's this for karma? Right before I had to pick him up at the vet last night my motorcycle was stolen.

What do you think?

He will be fine. Look at it this way, there are bad conditions that he will be less likely to get. I have been spayed, and I don't feel guilty about it.

he will be fine as for karma would you rather a female dog come on heat and he gets killed by a car because he got out trying to get to her? no I'm sure you wouldn't that's why we do these things to prevent unwanted accidents and most of all unwanted puppy's etc you did the right thing your motor bike was just some bad luck not karma you love your pet and you did this to protect him from harm that's all don't feel down he will never miss a thing.my dog is spayed because i didn't want her to get out and get hurt when she came on heat and she is still as happy go lucky as the day i got her done she came home a Lil sore and that's all she has no idea what happened and she just wont have any baby's that i cant re home, some call it being responsible i just think its taking care of our baby's because he only want whats best for them.

i think you will get over your guilty feelings soon.i just had my kittens spayed and neutered and i was feeling real bad for awhile, really, but in a few days they were back to their old selves and I finally saw that what i did for them was best b/c you can't control nature and if your dog smells another dog in heat, he will travel far to find the source and doing so he could be killed.i once had a dog in heat and woke up to find a dog trying to chew my wood door off the frame to get to her.my daughter now, has two golden retrievers and they had puppies 6 months ago, she sold them so that wasn't a problem, but now the female is in heat again and the male dog is going out of his mind trying to get to her. they are acting normal for their kind and doing what nature orders them to do but it's a lot of unnecessary problems. they will be done soon.anyway don't feel bad you are doing the right thing.

If u are showing the same character towards your pet as u were before your pet was neutered, then what's the difference?

I think you're crazy.. animals=humans.. Jeez for dumb....sorry. BTW, your dog will be fine - in the scheme of things you did him a favor. At least he won't want to perform frottage on your leg anymore....

Do you know how many little puppies and kittens are euthanized every day for no other reason than that there are no homes for them??????? You were showing responsible pet ownership by having him neutered.

...Eggs laid by hens arent fertilised..Oxen are castrated bulls...

There is not any question of ethics here..

The dogs will never take care of puppies ,it's us who do that..and I think we can decide whether the dog is fertile or not...

your dog will be fine just as we humans are. and as for the motorcycle one had nothing to do with the other--unless you think the dog stole it.
