Race is arbitrary and the concept of it only exists to reinforce and justify prejudices and racism.

Historically, race has been defined by whatever suits people's purposes. In Nazi Germany Jews were considered a "race" because of their linguistic history, not their lineage (today most descendents of the original Semite tribes are Muslim Arabs). In South African Apartheid Japanese people enjoyed the privileges of Whites but Chinese did not because Chinese were just labourers but Japan was a rich country whose investment they wanted.
