No sound after reconnecting?
I unhooked my computer to take it outside and blow out the dust, but when I hooked everything back up I no longer have sound. I was quite certain the speakers plugged into the green port (I have a Dell Dimension desktop), but I plugged it into each of the ports just to be sure, and I can't get sound from any of them. Have I damaged something? It worked fine before.
Wellll, I didn't exact take the back off because there were rivets rather than screws holding it on. So I blew through the holes with the back still in place. I don't even know what a sound card is or what it looks like, but if someone can tell me how to get the back off I will look and see if I can figure it out.

Maybe the dust is what kept everything working? :-) What you can do is re open the tower and just check the audio card to make sure its connected into the Motherboard and also check the Audio Cable INSIDE the case to make sure its connected into the Sound Card. I don't think it'd be the Device Drivers because you said it was working just fine before you unplugged it. It was more than likely when you unplugged it or plugged it back in, you bumped it thus making the Sound Card come out just enough to not work.
To take the cover off, its different on a case, but on a dell dimension there should be like a Black Button on the top of the case and on the bottom of the case, you pull it apart.

When you open it, you can then see the sound card, but now that i think of it, your sound card is built into the motherboard (the main part of the computer) Its hard to explain without actually being there if you dont know what the part is... I was going to say there will be a cable running to it, but uh theres lots of cables running to the computer. If you can have somebody physically show you, it'd be best. Ask them where the sound card is and the cabling for the sound card. Just make sure everything is tightened, nothing is loose.
Source(s): Because i've bumped my computer a couple times and have had this happen. Good Luck! :-) - InspectorBudgetLv 71 decade ago
The speakers do plug into the green port, so you are correct in that sense.
Try turning off the computer , plugging in the speakers, and restarting.
Have you by chance inadvertently turned down the volume knob on the speakers ( if they have those )?
Also, try clicking on the little speaker icon on the taskber ( lower right hand corner ), and upping the volume level.

just make sure that you have hooked everything back up correctly, depending on what you used to blow the dust out moisture could have gotten in your pc, in that case turn it off for a couple of hours then turn it on to see if you have sound
