what's the best way for a pensioner to find the cheapest flight tickets, the Net, newspapers or travel agents?

with limited resources, the cheapest travel deals are the most attractive, Thailand, the US, European riverboat tours, small groups, no hidden taxes or extra costs are an essential part of the search.

Given that it sounds like you want to talk about what you want to do, I would suggest that you look for a good travel agent. By good, I mean look for an independent agent and one that has older rather than younger staff (no disrepect to younger staff, it's just that they haven't been anywhere). Interview them a bit, ask where they have been themselves, what hotels they have stayed in and when you have found one, look after them as they are few and far between. We used to have an agent in our village, the ladies in the shop were aged, I think, about 60 plus but where they had not been was not worth going to - and it was all first hand knowledge. Remember, the internet will answer your question - BUT - are you asking the right question and are you getting the answer from the right person?

This playing one off against the other, use with caution. If all you want is a one off flight, then fair enough. If you expecting someone to give you the benefit of their knowledge and to really help guide you, playing on off against the other is counter productive. Do unto others.... as they say.

The net, definitely! Try Chevron for any trips to Malta too. I'm a wheelchair user who travels alone and they arranged everything I required using the Net and a quick phone call to confirm. They have All-Inclusive holidays which are wonderful. Air Malta are the best airline I've ever used!
