I actually understand your problem. I have chronic insomnia, and before I began taking sleep meds, I was awake anywhere from 24-48 hours in a row. And I don't drink coffee and very little caffeine. It is a problem, for those who don't know. I have what's called bipolar II. It's a milder form of bipolar, also known as manic depression.
I take Ambien, but I have to warn you of the problems you may not have heard of. Lunesta has the same effect on me. You must take any sleep meds Immediately before you go to sleep. Don't stay up. I have driven my car and loaded my gun while on Ambien and Lunesta ---- not at the same time, just had the same prob. Heard of a guy who recently was arrested for DUI because he is on Ambien. So be careful.
Have you been to a doctor lately? If not, you may want to and discuss your concerns. Unless you go about it illegally, you'll obviously need a doc to prescribe it any way. You may consider seeing a counselor or psychiatrist as well.
Also, consider what else is going on in your life. Overly stressed?
Good luck! Hang in there!

First choice is life style: no caffeine, limit alcohol, low fat/high fiber diet, as much physical activity as you can (but not within an hour or 2 of bedtime). It helps to do what you love (man, I wish I could!), as stress is a major block to sleep.
Meditation works...if you can do it (I can't), but for those who can't, look online for one of the many brainwave entrainment programs - most have free demo downloads, and when used with stereo headphones (seperate signals are sent to each ear), these can actually put you to sleep (I can't sleep with earbuds in, but this works for my wife).
Save the bed for sleep and sex, no TV or even sitting up reading. The only listening would be that entrainment program you downloaded.
You'll find dozens of herbs that are suppose to work for sleeplessness, but I use melatonin, since it is really short-acting. If it doesn't work, you can try something else, but being in bed right after you take it helps.
Last resort: Ambien! I use it a few times a month, but less so since my acupuncturist adjusted my herbal formula.
Earplugs help, too!

if you have problems getting sleep, here are some suggestions which you can try.
Don't force yourself to bed. keep yourself engaged in some interesting activity till you get sleep.
Do some hectic physical activity, few hours before you go to sleep, like a long evening walk, some physical exercises etc.
Read some interesting books. If you are religeously inclined do some meditaion. Have a long chat with someone whom you like / rever very much.
Listen to some soul soothing music, at a very low volume.
Above all, do not be too much preoccupied with your lack of sleep. It is an ailment which affects everyone at some stage or other. Understand it is only a temporary problem. Also, try to divert your mind in one of the above ways, if you have any depressing issues.

Here are some alternative cures that can be tried out. They have been known to work on some people but it may not work on others. These cures are safe with no side effects and there is no harm trying them out. For more information, it is advisable to consult a physician.
Aromatherapy
Some oils like lavender oil can be bought at most supermarkets and pharmacies. The oils can be put in steaming water and inhaled. This can help to relax the body, helping one to sleep better.

for starters, dont worry about it to much.
try to focus and analyse what maybe going wrong?
Are you terribly tensed? Are there some niggling worries? Are you not eating well? Are you not performing enough physical/mental excercise?
I have found that performing heavy mental work can put you to sleep fairly fast. heavy physical workout can put you to sleep only after 4-6 hours since immediately after the workout, your body tends to burn energy and activate you.
I use a combination of reading & music to goto sleep on nights that sleep seems to elude me.

No caffeine in the afternoons, soak in a warm tub to relax before going to sleep, make sure your room is dark and cool enough, while laying in bed mentally talk yourself through relaxing starting with your toes, ankles, calves, knees, thighs, hips, stomach, chest, arms, hands, shoulders, neck, chin, eyes, head.....concentrate on breathing slowly and evenly throughout.
Gee....I'm kinda sleepy just typing that :-D

You might be bipolar. I'm bipolar and I rarely sleep as well. I usually take a few tylenol pm every few days to get SOME sleep. Goto a psychiatrist/doctor.

Like others said Jesus was a man like others but perfect so he still could become tired and needed to eat and drink. God is a spirit and does not need these things. If Jesus was God in the flesh, the bible would state that many times and we know it does not. It is man's thinking and not the Bible.
