Someone in the movie industry - why are SO MANY movies remade?

I'm not in the movie industry, but my guess is because Hollywood had completely run out of good ideas.

I disagree I love remakes. Im a diehard movie guy that really started watching them in the 80's. The movies I cherished are REALLY starting to show their age. Movies can be a great medium for communicating messages and teaching a lesson BUT with so many original ideas being used up, it is interesting to see them blow the dust off old movies and putting them into todays context and actually giving them special effects.

Like Night of the Living dead? The first one was lame, looked like what it was, a guy with a tad of makeup wrestling with a boring white guy. You watch dawn of the dead? Totally different dimension.

It has nothing to do with "running out of ideas" ! That is impossible, imagination is endless. I think the reason there are so many remakes is because people want to bring a film and enhance it with hollywoods better tech. I also think it is because they feel that bringing back a movie that everyone loved will bring in the money at the box office.

I'm not in the movie industry, but my guess is trickery and money. They trick people into seeing something that made it big oh so long ago, therefore people are gonna see the remake. It's money.

because the technology today is a lot better than it was in the past so studios are just reminising for the new generation who might miss out on the good movies in the past. So they remake them with HD and effects better than what anyone could do in the past.

I thing there is and will never ever be anything original from movies to fashion. People can only enhance or add to what has already been made.
