Carburetor people please help?

Question

have an 85 Dodge Ram Mini (cargo version of the caravan) that has the 2.6 liter motor.

the top flapper on the carburetor seems to be opening way to soon allowing way to much air to mix with the fuel (which causes it to die within 2-3min afer starting it.). I have tried spraying a little carburetor cleaner in it but it did not do much. If stick somthing in it to manually adjust it while it is running i can get it to run as long as i want with the object holding the flapper most of the way closed.

what is this little door called and is there a way for me to adjust it/replace it without to much trouble or am I do for a new carburetor?

That is a 1500 Holley and it's based on a Weber design.  It is one of the best carbs you can get.  You wouldn't want to buy a new one, because if you were able to, it would cost you around 400 bucks.  Now, what you are looking at is the choke butterfly.  It is controlled by the round plastic case on the side of the carb.  It has 3 screws on it to adjust rich or lean.  First, look for vaccum leaks, because they will cause real problems.  When you have no vaccum leaks, you should check the electrical plug going to it.  Make sure it's clean and working.  I think it should have 12V when cold.  Make sure the choke turns on when you turn the key on and it's cold.  Sometimes they are controlled by a heater hose but in 85, I would say it works off of the coolant temp sending unit.  It will be on the head.  Good luck.

the flapper is called your choke...and there is a piece on the carburator called the choke pulloff...these can be adjusted...go to the dealer and ask the parts counter people to show you a diagram of this...they will and you will see where the adjustment is.

my guess would be the temp. control switch,a faulty switch would restrict flow
