Use dry swiffers. They work awesome. I have three cats and it works better than vacuuming since vacuums always let dust back out into the house...uless you have a $500 one!!!

They're cheap and work wonderful. Try it, you'll be surprised at what it picks up and it won't harm the hardwood!!

Try the Swiffer Sweeper Vac (I think I got the name right...not sure though). It's the one that has the dry cloth and the vacuum part built into one. Swiffer makes some great products- that's what I use.

"Shark" makes a great. lightweight, battery operated "sweeper" much like an upgrade of the old push type carpet sweepers.

It's rechargable, the charge lasts about 45 minutes, ithas a removable catch tray, replacement brushes are available, it has multiple speeds, is light weight, not ugly, stores easily hidden, and is relatively inexpensive.

i use a push-broom, the kind that janitors use in buildings. it's ideal for hardwood and tile. you can get it at wal-mart. i also use swiffer hardwood cleaner for the shine.
