Has anyone changed a cam sensor on a 1998 Ford F150?

I have put the new sensor in, but the truck seems out of time. What position does the sensor need to be in. Are there any other ways to adjust the timing on this 4.2 V6.

you have to have a cam sensor alignment tool. roll the engine up to no.1 top dead center. put the tool in the assembly and line the arrow up with the hold down bolt hole. you may have to do this a couple times to get it lined up. tighten the hold down. now install sensor and plug back in. usually when the sensor goes bad the magnet falls out of it and ruins the drive assembly. check for this or it will ruin every sensor you put in. should be 210.00 for drive and sensor at ford only. the tool is hard to find though. try thetoolnetwork.com under specialty tools and make sure the one you get fits your application.
