A little of both. People like Nascar drivers because of their personalities. I happen to like Tony Stewart because he takes no crap from anybody. Fans of Dale Jr. like him because he is basically the same kind of person as his father was (and nearly as good a driver too). He has the benefit of having fans of his father become his fans too. Dale Sr. was literally a legend in Nascar, thus Dale Jr. inherits a legacy that only time will tell if he can live up to.

takfam says it all. I love to watch Tony Stewart for the same reason. Dale Jr. is some much like Dale sr. was.
