To sell mary kay or not to sell mary kay?

I would say DO NOT SELL MARY KAY!! It was the worst decision I ever made. I have been a Mary Kay consultant for 3 almost 4 years and I'm having a hell of a time selling. They make it seem so easy to move up in the business but it's not that easy! You have to con other people to join in order to really move up. Ugg- so much to say about it but No- don't join!

I would say NO NO NO. I am still technically a Mary Kay consultant but I have not been active in ages. I started out because I was in school but needed some extra cash but without having to spend a lot of time, which is how a lot of MK directors "sell" being a consultant to you....trust me, the only way you will ever make any money off doing MK is if you don't do anything else (it is not a good side job to have). I ended up spending more to order things for people than I made because you do have to pay for shipping and such but you don't charge your customers for that.

I know a lot of people who have made successes out of selling MK BUT they don't do anything else besides being stay at home moms.

The only plus is that as long as you are an active consultant (ordering at least $400 a month), you get everything discounted.

Maybe it would be a different experience for you if you tried, but another part that made MK suck for me was my sales director. She was only interested in getting the cars and "love checks" (% directors get off of how much the consultants sell). Though she knew I was in school and worked a small job through the school, she still tried to push me and push me. It got to the point that I had to avoid her phone calls because she harrassed me. I also know that when consultants and directors are hard core, they tend to harrass their regular customers as well.

Ultimately, this is just my opinion based on my own experiences. If you choose to try it, the most you will lose is like $115 for the start up kit that you're required to buy.

First off I don't know who these other women are that are answering you. Telling you that you have to know tons of women and women that wear make up And that the money is not good. My director's monthly checks are over $10,000. Sweetheart only you can answer the question you have just asked. The business works only if you work it. You can join this business and not know a soul. But you have to be able and willing to GO AND MEET PEOPLE. That is how your business grows. If you find a great director then she will support you no matter what you choose. Some women decide to sell only to get a discount. Others sell the product to support their families. Obviously if that is what you want, then you have to put more into your business. In Mary Kay, we don't have bosses, we are our OWN bosses. No one tells what to do, but our support groups are awesome. It really is a personal choice between you, God and your family. my sis in law has benn selling it for a few years. Really its not that big a deal, the hardest part will be tha tyou'll have to buy some inventory and once you do that then you'll need clients. It's all a pyramid scheme too, so you'll be working under someone, and hopefully get girls to work under you, and so long as you meet your minimum each month it's no big deal. But really do you have a lot of makeup using friends? It's a lot of work, and really you don't make much, but if you've got some friends that need makeup help. it's a good opportunity to help people. you can also put up cards at the local campus' and get customers that way. If you're looking to make a living, I'd recommend a real job tho. cuz it takes a long time to get much $ out of it. You might look into Pampered Chef if you like to cook. that market isn't so saturated.

Don't people just love to tell you Mary Kay horror stories? The person that recruited me is highly successful in the business. It is her full time job and she works 30-40 hours a week...her commission check shows her work. In order to be a success you have to be smart about your business decisions. I did not start out with tons of inventory, but a couple of months down the road I realized that this was a viable source of income for me and then I invested. I also realized that I had to find positive people to meet with. That doesn't mean drop your significant other and your friends, it means that in business, you have to believe and be determined and don't sweat the small stuff. That goes for MK, Avon, Arbonne, or any other direct sale business. May sure you have a director that will give you straight up honest answers. You also have to know what is in your heart.

I personally sell arbonne. I sell these products b/c the products really work. Arbonne products are all natural, hypo-allergenic, vegan certified products, that a lot people love and buy. I would say you do have to put work into it. To start up with arbonne is very cheap. You have a start up fee which is 29.00 dollars and then you can either sell or buy the products for yourself at a discount. The 29.00 dollars pays for your first catalog, on-line log in for free training and marketing materials, order forms, product information, and learning materials. Now, I started up about 3 weeks ago and I have only spent 350.00 dollars (Most of them I use on myself, the other half I sample out. Which the full size samples can last up to 6 months) . And I have made about 650.00. I do this part-time and I also work full-time as a nurse. I love it b/c I get to talk to tons of people. It all depends on what kind of personality you have. For any self employed business, you have to socialize and persuade people. For MK, you also need to have a lot of girl friends. You need to hold parties and have a lot of people there to buy your items. If you think you can do it, go right ahead. Also, my experience with MK sales people has not been very positve because they are overly pushy and aggressive. So bear that in mind.
